A County Seat with Old Shade Trees
Bartow's historic downtown, anchored by the old Polk County Courthouse, is surrounded by neighborhoods of older homes on generous lots. Many of those yards are shaded by oaks, both live and laurel, that went in generations back, with camphor trees, slash pines and sabal palms mixed in. Big, old trees give the town much of its character, but they also drop limbs, lift sidewalks and crowd roofs as they age.
In town, our work is mostly careful tree removal and pruning around houses, driveways and overhead lines. We rig large limbs down from the bucket truck rather than dropping them, then clean up and haul the wood away.
Phosphate Land, Pasture and River Bottoms
Drive out of Bartow in almost any direction and the landscape changes quickly. Bartow sits in the Bone Valley phosphate district, and large areas of land around it have been mined and later reclaimed. Reclaimed parcels often grow up in fast-spreading brush, Brazilian pepper, willow and young trees within a few years. Beyond the mine lands are cattle pastures, pine flatwoods and patches of former citrus grove.
The Peace River begins near Bartow, where Peace Creek and Saddle Creek come together, and its floodplain carries cypress, bay trees and hardwood hammocks. Land near the river or near wetlands may have buffers and permit requirements, so we always suggest checking with Polk County before clearing close to the water.

Getting Raw Land Ready to Build
Industrial, commercial and residential projects keep appearing along US-98, US-17 and SR-60, the main routes through Bartow. Whether you are a builder breaking ground on a subdivision or a family putting a house on five acres, the sequence is similar:
- Land clearing to remove trees, brush and old fencing.
- Grubbing stumps and roots, which would otherwise decay beneath future concrete.
- Site preparation and rough leveling for the pad, septic area and yard.
- Access road construction and grading so concrete and material trucks can reach the build site.
We can take on one step or the whole sequence and coordinate the timing with your builder.
Brush, Palmetto and Dry-Season Fire Risk
Late winter and spring are the driest months in Polk County, and that is when brush fires start in overgrown pasture, pine flatwoods and reclaimed land. Thick saw palmetto, dead grass and dense young trees right up against a house, barn or fence line give a fire plenty of fuel.
Our fire risk reduction work opens a defensible buffer around structures by thinning trees, raising low limbs and grinding down palmetto and brush. On bigger tracts, forestry mulching with a track loader turns that fuel into a thin mulch layer instead of a pile that has to be burned or hauled.

Storm Damage and Cleanup
Bartow sits inland, but hurricanes and tropical storms that cross central Florida still bring hours of strong wind and heavy rain. Pines snap, laurel oaks split at weak unions, and waterlogged root systems let whole trees go over. Summer thunderstorms add lightning strikes and sudden downbursts on top of that.
After the weather clears, we cut up and remove fallen trees, take down hanging limbs and damaged trunks, grind the stumps and haul the debris. On rural properties we also reopen blocked driveways, trails and fence lines so you can get to your animals and equipment.
Areas We Cover In and Around Bartow
We work in downtown Bartow and its older neighborhoods, out along US-98 toward Highland City and Lakeland, east along SR-60 toward Lake Wales, and south on US-17 toward Fort Meade. That includes small homesites, pasture, horse properties and commercial land near the Bartow Executive Airport area.
Bartow is also close to the other towns in our Polk service area, including Fort Meade, Mulberry and Winter Haven, so we often combine nearby jobs on the same trip.
Why Bartow Customers Choose FTDF Services
We are a Tampa-based crew covering a 100-mile radius, and Bartow is a routine run for us. Estimates are free and done on site, so you get a real plan instead of a guess over the phone. For Bartow's mix of town lots and open acreage we bring the bucket truck for tall canopies, our mulching track loader for brush and reclaimed ground, the grapple loader to pick up big logs, and the grinder and dump trailer to finish clean. We are reachable from early morning to late evening every day and speak English and Spanish.
To get on the schedule, describe your property and what you need on our contact page, and attach a few photos if you can.
