Old Canopy, Tight Lots and Salt Air
Many Sarasota streets west of US-41, the Tamiami Trail, were planted generations ago. Live oaks and laurel oaks now reach over roofs, pool cages and driveways, and sabal palms and royal palms line the yards closer to the bay. These trees add shade and value, but on small lots there is little room to drop a limb safely. Our crews use a bucket truck to work from above, lowering wood in controlled pieces instead of letting it fall onto fences or lanais.
Closer to the water, salt spray and sandy soil leave some trees with shallow roots and weak wood. Laurel oaks in particular tend to decay from the inside as they age. If a trunk sounds hollow, mushrooms appear at the base, or the canopy is thinning, it is time for a closer look and possibly a careful tree removal.
After Ian and Milton: Getting Ready for the Next Storm
Sarasota residents remember Hurricane Ian in 2022 and Hurricane Milton, which came ashore near Siesta Key in 2024. Both left broken limbs, leaning oaks and piles of debris across the county. The best defense is work done before June:
- Crown thinning so gusts slip between the branches rather than catching a solid wall of leaves.
- Clearance cuts to pull branches back from roofs, screens and power drops.
- Palm cleanup to remove dead fronds and seed pods that turn into projectiles.
Our tree trimming and pruning focuses on structure, not topping. When a storm does hit, we cut and lift fallen trees with a loader and log grapple and haul the mess away through our debris removal service.

East of I-75: Acreage Toward Myakka
Head east along Fruitville Road or Clark Road and the lots get bigger. Out toward Myakka River State Park you find pine flatwoods, palmetto and pasture, where landowners need overgrown trails reopened, fence lines cleared or homesites opened up. For that work we bring a tracked machine fitted with a mulching head, plus a stump grinder. Leftover stumps from any job can be ground below grade with our stump grinding service so you can replant or sod right away.
We also cover neighboring Lakewood Ranch and Venice, so a single call reaches crews who already know south Sarasota County.
Permits, HOAs and Getting a Free Estimate
Sarasota County and the City of Sarasota both have rules about removing certain trees, and many deed-restricted communities add their own approval steps. Confirm with the right office and your HOA before anyone starts cutting, and ask us if you want a rundown of the usual paperwork. Florida Statute 163.045 also lets a homeowner remove a tree that an ISA-certified arborist or licensed landscape architect documents as a danger without a local permit.
Estimates are free, and our phones are open every day of the week from early morning into the evening, in English and Spanish. Use our contact form or call to set up a visit.
