Tree Care and Land Clearing for Ocala Horse Farms and Homes

Ocala calls itself the Horse Capital of the World, and the rolling pasture, board fences and huge moss-draped live oaks northwest of town back that up. FTDF Services works on those farms and in the neighborhoods across Marion County.

Live Oaks Over the Paddock

On many Ocala farms, the most valuable tree is the old live oak standing alone in a pasture. It gives horses shade through brutal summer afternoons and is part of what makes the property beautiful. These trees can live for centuries, but they also drop heavy limbs, especially after a wet spell or a strong storm, and a broken limb across a board fence or a run-in shed is a real problem when animals are turned out.

Our tree trimming on farms focuses on removing deadwood, reducing overextended limbs and raising the canopy so trucks, tractors and hay equipment can pass underneath. We work from a bucket truck so we are not climbing through the crown, and we keep cuts clean and proper for the tree's long-term health.

Fence Lines, Pasture Edges and Farm Roads

Horse farms need clear fence lines. Trees and vines growing into board fence push rails loose, and limbs falling on fence create gaps. We clear both sides of a fence line so it is easy to inspect and mow. Where pasture edges have filled in with laurel oak, cherry, sweetgum and brush, forestry mulching pushes the woods back and leaves the ground covered in mulch instead of bare sand.

For larger changes, such as a new barn site, an arena, a riding trail or another paddock, our land clearing opens the ground. We can then build or regrade a farm lane with our access road construction service so horse trailers and feed trucks have a solid route in every season.

In Town and Around the Neighborhoods

Away from the farms, Ocala has established neighborhoods with tall pines and oaks, growing subdivisions along SR-200 and toward I-75, and homes on wooded lots near the Silver Springs area. In those yards we take down dead or leaning trees with careful tree removal, clean up storm limbs and handle brush clean up on overgrown lots. Summer lightning strikes many tall pines in Marion County, and a struck pine usually declines from the top down, so it is best removed before it fails.

Working With Marion County Landowners

Clearing large areas or working near wetlands and sinkhole-prone ground can involve county rules, so check with Marion County or the City of Ocala first. We are glad to explain the questions landowners usually face. We also cover Belleview and Summerfield to the south. Estimates are free, and we answer in English or Spanish, every day of the week.

FAQ

Ocala Tree Service & Land Clearing FAQ

Can you trim a big live oak in a pasture without stressing the horses?

We plan around your animals. We ask that horses be moved to another paddock while we work, and we will keep the job area tidy and remove all cut wood before they go back out.

Do you clear fence lines on horse farms?

Yes. We cut back trees, vines and brush along both sides of the fence and remove overhanging limbs so the fence is easy to maintain.

Should a lightning-struck pine near my Ocala home come down?

Usually, yes. Pines hit by lightning often die within months and can drop limbs or fall unexpectedly. We will take a look and give you an honest recommendation during a free estimate.
